Vitor Pereira has plans to overhaul his Wolves squad in the summer transfer window, which could leave one player potentially worried about his future.
Wolves are targeting a new left wing-back after Rayan Ait-Nouri joined Manchester City, with Barcelona’s Gerard Martin emerging as an option.
Most importantly, the Old Gold are planning for life post-Matheus Cunha after he joined Manchester United earlier in June.
Although not a direct replacement for the Brazilian, Wolves are closing in on the signing of Fer Lopez, who passed his medical on Wednesday ahead of a £20 million transfer from Celta Vigo.
But while strengthening at wing-back, attacking midfield, and even striker are important, Pereira also has his eyes on another position.
Wolves ‘prioritising’ a replacement for Jose Sa
According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, the future of Jose Sa is ‘uncertain’ and Wolves are ‘prioritising’ a new number one to replace him.
Sa was the preferred first choice for Pereira last term, starting ahead of former Crystal Palace stopper Sam Johnstone.
The Portuguese gloveman appeared in 29 Premier League matches in 2024/25 and kept seven clean sheets, though Sa did experience some shaky moments.
In the 2-1 defeat against Fulham in February, Clinton Morrison branded Sa ‘ridiculous’ for rushing out of his goal before being lobbed by Rodrigo Muniz.
That was just one of multiple chaotic moments the 32-year-old was involved in, and it’s perhaps why Wolves are considering capturing a new goalkeeper this summer.
Wolves have been linked with Christos Mandas
There’s a chance that Sa could leave Wolves in the transfer window, four years after joining the club for around £6 million from Olympiacos.
So, that could open the door for someone else to take his place, with Wolves showing an interest in Christos Mandas once more after Gary O’Neil tried to sign him last year.
Mandas currently plays for Lazio in Serie A but harbours ambitions of playing in the Premier League, something he could achieve this summer.
Speaking recently to Greek outlet Athletiko, Mandas said that Wolves would return for him in 2025 following their previous interest in the 23-year-old.
“Last year, Wolverhampton contacted Lazio for me, but the club didn’t want to consider me leaving,” he explained.
“They said they would come back next year. The Premier League interests me, but I won’t move just for the sake of it.”
The Greek international made 20 appearances for Lazio last term and kept six clean sheets. Now, he could join Wolves and replace Sa as number one.
