Real Sociedad have added Aston Villa coach José Rodríguez to their backroom staff.
That’s according to Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, who provide an insight on why La Real decided to appoint the Aston Villa official.
Rodríguez joined Aston Villa in August 2021 as their set piece analyst and maintained the same role even after Unai Emery’s arrival in November 2022. He’s also been working as a set piece coach for the Scotland national team since October.
Imanol Alguacil stepped down as the La Liga club’s manager at the end of last season. His assistant, Jon Ansotegi, was taking care of set pieces.
Real Sociedad have appointed Sergio Francisco as their new manager and have added the Spaniard set piece coach to his backroom staff.
The newspaper states the club wanted to create a new role within their setup for a set piece coach. This has led to them taking Rodríguez from the Premier League side and his role will be that of a specialist at Real Sociedad.
Rodríguez started his career as a journalist at Cope Sevilla before he shifted to working as an analyst and sports management. It’s unclear whether he’ll be leaving his role with Scotland.
