Birmingham City, Hull City and Norwich City are all interested in Arminia Bielefeld’s Louis Oppie, according to Football Insider.
Birmingham City are out to compete with Championship clubs upon their rise from League One. BCFC have big ambitions, and will be out to jump Norwich City, Hull City and the rest next season.
The Blues have big goals and money to spend in the bid to achieve them, identifying ambitious transfer targets for this summer after a big spending spree last year too.
They are yet to make a breakthrough on the transfer front, but a new name has emerged on the radar at St. Andrew’s.
As per a report from Football Insider, Birmingham City are alongside new Championship rivals Hull City and Norwich City in eyeing German left-back Louis Oppie.
The 23-year-old has starred for Armenia Bielefeld since signing from Hannover 96 in 2023 and with a year left on his contract, he could earn a notable move over from Germany to England.
BCFC have him on the radar as cover and competition for Alex Cochrane, but there are other options available to Oppie, it would appear. With a year left on his contract, a deal might not break the bank despite his starring form last season.
Oppie’s 2024/25 campaign
Given the numbers posted by Oppie in the 2024/25 season, it isn’t a surprise that he has caught the eye of Birmingham City, Hull City and Norwich City.
Operating mainly as a left-back, the German managed 16 goal contributions. He scored five times and laid on an impressive 11 assists, many of which come in Germany’s third tier.
However, the success Oppie found in the run to the DfB Pokal final saw him fare impressively against a higher level of opposition. He scored two goals and provided one assist as they defeated former club Hannover, Union Berlin, SC Freiburg, Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen.
An area to address for Birmingham City
As touched on before, Birmingham City have Alex Cochrane as a fine option at left-back. He starred on the way to the League One title and started all season amid Lee Buchanan’s injury issues.
The problems Buchanan has encountered mean new cover and competition is needed for Cochrane, and Oppie could offer just that.
However, at Hull City or Norwich City, the German could have a better chance of locking down a starting spot. BCFC will likely be able to offer better money than both, but it will be down to Oppie to decide what he values most amid wide English interest.
