French side Stade Rennais are ‘swooping in’ on Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye, with him yet to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that the Everton midfielder is the subject of strong interest from Stade Rennais and manager Habib Beye. He particularly appreciates the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder’s experience.
They report that despite being 35 years old, Gueyes is a prime target for clubs in this summer transfer window.
His status as a free agent, with a new deal on the table from Everton but yet to be signed, is leading to plenty of interest from clubs in Europe.
It was believed that Everton had tied him to a new deal, but it’s not yet been announced, and FM report Gueye is, yet to formally accept the offer. Everton have offered a one-year deal plus the option of another year.
That’s seen as a ‘boon’ for Paris FC, who are keen on him, but also Stade Rennais, who are looking for experienced players this summer.
Gueye’s profile and experience are very appealing to their manager Habib Beye and they’re now making moves for him. However, they will have to convince the player and hope Everton ultimately fail to tie him to a new deal.
They, of course, couldn’t offer anything like Everton will be offering the veteran, particularly in financial terms. It will rest on Gueye, who has often expressed his and his family’s happiness on Merseyside.
