Danny Röhl is back in the game!
The Sheffield Wednesday manager has been popping up in the German media every now and then this summer as he tries to find a Bundesliga job. His latest comments had been to say he’d like a position in Germany’s top flight as soon as possible.
RB Leipzig has been his absolute dream this summer, however, despite his efforts, including interviews with club specific media insisting he could make the jump from the Championship to the Champions League, the German club have preferred a string of other options.
As we’ve explained on multiple occasions, for the Sheffield Wednesday manager to be top candidate, a string of others would either have to reject the position or end up beyond RB Leipzig’s reach. That would be similar to what happened with Bayern Munich and Vincent Kompany last year.
Well, Danny Röhl may be starting to see his luck changing.
RB Live report Leipzig are continuing to have problems agreeing a fee with Werder Bremen for Ole Werner, and there’s an alternative ‘right on their doorstep’.
That man is Sheffield Wednesday’s manager. Two things to note, RB Live is the website Röhl gave his initial pick-me interview to, so perhaps they’re returning a favour. Additionally, if Leipzig are having issues agreeing a fee with Werder they may face similar challenges with The Owls.
Röhl took part in a charity football match at the weekend, raising money for families battling cancer. Afterwards he spoke to MDR, and TAG24 have his quotes.
With the manager’s words, it’s clear why he’s stuck his neck out for any chance of the RB Leipzig job: “My two boys and my wife still live in Leipzig. We decided to make our home base here because we feel very comfortable here.
“I’ve already said it to one or two people today: This is a very, very demanding summer break, even for me. There’s a lot of back and forth. But football is football. I’m just looking forward to the start of summer preparations again, wherever that may be. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but it’s certainly true that what I did in England is being noticed.”
RB Leipzig is the big dream, and he’ll have to hope the Werner attempt fails like several before, and then it may just be Danny Röhl time.
