Ianis Hagi will officially become a free agent at the end of June when his Rangers contract expires.
Rangers announced last month that Hagi’s contract is not being renewed, bringing an end to his five-year stay at Ibrox.
Hagi enjoyed some high points during his Rangers career, but there were many more low points, particularly in more recent times.
Indeed, Hagi was not even considered for selection by Philippe Clement in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign due to a clause in his contract that would be triggered if he played a certain number of games.
The Romanian did well to force his way into the side and went on to make 29 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, although it was far from a vintage campaign for both the attacker and his side.
Hagi speaks out after Rangers exit
Hagi recently spoke out on his time at Rangers, insisting that he was “very happy” with how his last season in Glasgow went on an individual level.
“I don’t know where I will go yet. It’s the first time in my career that I’m free from contract,” he said via Herald Scotland (25 May).
“I’m very happy with the season I had at Rangers. I managed to turn my career around at Rangers. I’m happy with the season, individually and collectively.
“Now I’m focusing on making the best decision for myself because it’s very important. I’m trying to balance everything, including the national team.”

Hagi’s suggestion that he was pleased with how his final season as a Rangers player went is something that left Rangers-mad pundit Derek Ferguson – the brother of former interim boss Barry – in disbelief.
Told about Hagi’s comments, Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News: “He said that? That’s really surprised me.
“He had all the stuff with the contract that stopped him from playing, for starters. You can see he’s a good player, but like a number of Rangers players, as a group it doesn’t work.
“I wish Hagi all the best. There are a few decent players at Rangers but it just hasn’t worked for them. But I’m surprised he’s happy.
“I’d have preferred for him to have said he was frustrated, unhappy even. But there’s a different mindset these days.”
Hagi backed to join LaLiga club after Rangers exit
Hagi has been linked with a number of clubs across the continent since news of his impending Rangers exit, which will officially go through on 30 June.
Romanian legend Ciprian Marica recently urged Hagi to consider joining a Spanish club, believing that country will suit his style of football.
Wherever he ends up, Hagi will leave with the best wishes of Rangers fans. But to suggest last season was anything other than a disaster is completely wrong.
