Football: Dylan Kinney, an OL transfer from Abilene Christian, pledges to TCU

TCU Football has made a significant move in the transfer portal, adding depth and experience to its offensive line with the commitment of Abilene Christian transfer Dylan Kinney. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound offensive lineman brings a strong presence and starting experience to a TCU team looking to rebuild and reinforce its front after several offseason departures.

Experienced Addition

Kinney, a redshirt sophomore from Richmond, Texas, played in all 12 games for Abilene Christian during the 2024 season. His consistency and durability made him one of the standout players on the Wildcats’ offensive line. Now, he brings that experience to Fort Worth, becoming the Horned Frogs’ first spring transfer portal acquisition.

Filling a Key Need

TCU’s offensive line has undergone a major transformation this offseason. The team lost key contributors including center James Brockermeyer, who transferred to Miami, and tackles Bless Harris and Mike Nichols. Additionally, freshman offensive lineman Mitch Hodnett entered the portal. While TCU brought in four high school offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class, the addition of Kinney provides much-needed maturity and readiness to a unit in flux.

Immediate Impact Expected

Kinney is expected to compete for a starting role from day one. His ability to play multiple positions along the offensive line gives TCU flexibility as it works to establish a reliable starting five. Coaches and analysts alike see Kinney as a valuable asset who can help solidify protection for the Horned Frogs’ quarterback and contribute to a more effective run game.

Player Statement

Announcing his decision, Kinney expressed enthusiasm and gratitude: “I’m excited to announce my commitment to TCU and can’t wait to join Horned Frog Nation! Big thanks to @TheProtectUCrew for making this transition smooth. Let’s get to work!”

Strategic Use of the Portal

TCU has shown a proactive approach in utilizing the transfer portal to address roster needs. With the addition of Dylan Kinney, the Horned Frogs continue their efforts to remain competitive in the Big 12. His commitment not only boosts the team’s depth but also sets a tone of ambition and resilience as TCU eyes a bounce-back season.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Kinney and the revamped offensive line to see if they can pave the way for a more dynamic and consistent offensive performance.
