Wrexham’s ambition shows no sign of letting up now that they are in the Championship.
Wrexham’s owners have vowed to be ‘aggressive’ in the transfer market in order to give Phil Parkinson the necessary tools for the club’s first tilt in the second tier since 1982.
Rob McElhenney doesn’t want ‘consolidation’ and is adamant that Wrexham will be looking to compete with the Championship’s ‘bigger’ clubs.
Humphrey Ker has suggested Wrexham will be sensible and the community director has also been quick to control talk of further targets desired by Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney.
Humphrey Ker cools talk of Wrexham’s Champions League ambitions
Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Sports Agents’ podcast, Ker was asked about the possibility of Wrexham aiming beyond the Premier League and one day reaching the Champions League.
Presenter Gabby Logan asked Ker: “Are Rob and Ryan [Reynolds and McElhenney] now not even thinking Premier League, are they thinking Champions League one day?”
Ker’s response was emphatic, he explained: “Do not encourage them! Please, they’re already deranged enough as it is, I can’t be putting Champions League in their mind, lets start with doing alright in the Championship.”

Humphrey Ker explains Wrexham’s Championship dilemma
Ker is under no illusions how tough next season will be for the Red Dragons and has described the club’s situation currently as a ‘double-edged’ sword in terms of how ambitious they are with their investments.
On Wrexham’s Championship conundrum, Ker claimed: “It is a bit of a double-edged sword, especially for a club like us, we’ve got a 10,000 seater stadium and we’ve just taken down 3000 temporary seats,
“We are a small lot, our matchday revenues are not massive, our sponsorship revenue is very large and disproportionately large for a club of our size.”
Michael Williamson continues to improve the infrastructure surrounding the club but there is no doubt that Wrexham have a lot of catching up to do with the clubs around them in the division.
All that Parkinson can control is matters on the pitch next season and under his guidance, there is no doubt he will have assembled a Wrexham squad raring to go for the challenge.
