The visit marked the first in-person contact between Pope and Alozie, who is widely considered a top-10 player in his class.
Alozie, originally from Nigeria, moved to the United States in 2022 and has rapidly risen through the national rankings due to his explosive athleticism, versatile scoring, and defensive prowess. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, he has drawn comparisons to former Kentucky star De’Aaron Fox for his quick first step and two-way impact.
Coach Pope’s visit was more than symbolic—it resulted in an official scholarship offer from Kentucky, making the Wildcats the ninth program to offer Alozie. He has also received offers from blue bloods like Duke and Kansas, as well as programs such as Washington, Villanova, and Louisville. Pope was joined in the recruitment effort by assistant coach Cody Fueger, who has maintained consistent communication with Alozie over the past several months.
“They’ve shown they believe in what I can bring to their team,” Alozie told ZagsBlog following the visit. “Coach Pope showed me clips of how I’d fit into their system—attacking in transition, playing both guard spots, and making plays on defense. That meant a lot.”
Kentucky’s interest in Alozie comes as the program seeks to build its post-Calipari identity under Pope. Known for his up-tempo offensive approach and emphasis on versatile guard play, Pope has made the recruitment of elite perimeter talent a priority in the 2026 class.
In addition to Kentucky, Alozie has already taken an official visit to Washington and has upcoming trips scheduled with Villanova and Louisville. While he hasn’t announced a firm timeline for his decision, he stated that finding a program that allows him to grow as both a player and person will be key.
“I’m looking for a place where I can be coached hard, compete every day, and get ready for the next level,” he said. “Kentucky is definitely one of those places I’m looking at seriously.”
