Lexington High School Appoints Veteran Coach Elliott Pope as New Boys’ Basketball Head Coach

Lexington High School in Lexington, South Carolina, has announced the hiring of Elliott Pope as the new head coach of the boys’ basketball team. Pope, a seasoned coach with a strong track record in North Carolina, takes over from Bailey Harris, who retired after 32 years at the helm of the Wildcats program.


A New Era for Lexington High Basketball

The appointment of Elliott Pope marks the beginning of a new chapter for Lexington High School’s boys’ basketball program. Pope brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to a team that has seen significant success under the leadership of Bailey Harris. Harris, who retired after 32 seasons, led the Wildcats to two state titles and accumulated 637 career victories.

Pope’s hiring was officially announced during a morning press conference at the school, where he expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “It’s a really humbling experience,” Pope stated, acknowledging the legacy he aims to uphold while bringing his own vision to the team.


Pope’s Coaching Background

Elliott Pope arrives at Lexington High School after a two-year tenure as the head coach at West Davidson High School in North Carolina. During his time there, he compiled a 19-29 record, with a notable 12-12 finish in the 2024 season. His efforts were recognized when he was named the Central Carolina Conference Coach of the Year.

Prior to his role at West Davidson, Pope served as the head coach and athletic director at Mountain Lake Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. A native of Huntersville, North Carolina, Pope graduated from Hopewell High School and played one year of college basketball at Carson-Newman before knee injuries ended his playing career.
