Is anyone paying close attention to the FIFA Club World Cup over the other side of the pond?
Last night I tuned into the game, on Channel 5, of the live coverage of Chelsea v Los Angeles FC, played in Atlanta.
The football served up was pretty decent but what kept attracting my attention was the sparseness of the crowd.
The attendance was announced as 22,137 with a colossal circa 50,000 empty seats.
Now I know it is the early stages of this new FIFA competiion but is it doomed to fail or will the crowds flock into the grounds for the later stages?
Although, perhaps I should point out that the attendances in the other games played, so far, have been a lot healthier, perhaps Atlanta doesn’t care much for its football.
To me, it is another money making scheme designed to add further cash to those participating, when, the game is already awash with money, courtesy of Sky TV.
The competition seems to have been padded out to include sides who, in reality, have no right to be there, as proven when Bayern Munich thrashed Aukland City, 10-0.
But what I can’t wait for are the moans that will be coming from the competing clubs, who do well in the competition, relating to tiredness affecting their starts to the season.

However, while I’ve had a dig at this new competition, if, somewhere down the line, the Hatters were to qualify, I’d be over there like a shot, would you?
