Newcastle growing in belief that £60m target will sign after triple boost – Report

An update has arrived on Friday lunchtime regarding Newcastle’s pursuit of Brighton star Joao Pedro.

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Newcastle United have received encouragement on a few fronts that a deal could be done to bring the Brazilian to St James’ Park this summer.

It’s believed the 23-year-old is keen to sign and will be allowed to leave the AMEX, with Brighton’s £34m move for highly-rated Greek youngster Charalampos Kostoulas improving our hopes of landing Pedro.

Not only that, Edwards reports that Newcastle are willing to negotiate a deal around the £60m figure Brighton have been demanding, suggesting the two clubs are not a millions miles apart on their valuations.

Eddie Howe is thought to be a huge admirers of the versatile forward, with previous reports suggesting he could play the South American just behind Alexander Isak as part of a slight formation tweak next season.

However, there is some caution offered in The Telegraph’s report, as other Premier League clubs – Chelsea being one of them – have shown interest previously and could enter the mix.

Pedro scored 10 goals last season and is able to play up top, in a number 10 role and out wide, offering the sort of versatility, pace, power and technical ability Howe craves.
