Newcastle United are ready to spend this summer ahead of their return to the Champions League.

In theory, Newcastle could spend £500m owing to their improved PSR position, even if that’s incredibly unlikely to happen in reality.

But the fact is that Eddie Howe’s side are in a stronger position than past summers, and serious upgrades should be on the horizon.

And in that regard, one of Newcastle’s key targets will be to add a right-sided attacker to Howe’s forward line, someone to dovetail with the likes of Jacob Murphy.

And whilst Newcastle are keen to sign Joao Pedro, there’s more than one name on the club’s radar.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle have held ‘internal discussions’ about signing West Ham United winger Mohammed Kudus.

Newcastle are looking at out-and-out wingers in the form of Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.

But Kudus’ name has also come up during recruitment meetings at the club, a player who is able to thrive in a number of attacking roles.

West Ham are ready to sell Kudus this summer, and the player is determined to stay in the Premier League despite interest from Saudi Arabia.

In fact, Kudus might only cost £50m for English clubs in the coming months, a reduction on his £80m release clause.

Therefore, Newcastle might be eyeing a bargain for the Ghana international, even if Pedro is top of their list right now.

In a similar situation to Kudus, Pedro is keen to leave his club and the chance to join Newcastle is a seriously appealing one for the Brazilian.

And whilst it remains to be seen if Kudus would be keen to head to St James’ Park himself, it would be a surprise if he wasn’t interested.

And whilst a move for Bowen has always appeared unrealistic for Howe’s side, a deal for Kudus should be a lot more feasible for the reasons explained.

Kudus has been brilliant in the Premier League for some time now, but if Newcastle needed further convincing, they might only need to glance towards Pep Guardiola’s comments last year.

Speaking in a press conference last May, Guardiola lauded Kudus as ‘exceptional’, whilst also praising some of his Hammers teammates.

Guardiola said: “Kudus is exceptional. Bowen for many years, many, many actions he does.

“Antonio you know, when he’s fit, unbelievable. And Paqueta is a top class player in terms of can do many, many things. So that’s why, all four from nothing can do something unique, special.”

And whilst Bowen seems unlikely to be wearing a Newcastle shirt any time soon, perhaps Kudus could be a serious option for Howe’s team.
