Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has been shortlisted for a prestigious award just days after it was revealed that Liverpool are preparing a British record bid for him.
The last couple of days have been worrying for fans on Tyneside who are desperate to see their best players stay at the club while new faces are brought in. However, that does not look like the case at this point.
Newcastle United have a healthy transfer budget to spend this summer and an eagerness to get business done early. However, there appear to be very few concrete moves in place after the first few days of the transfer window being open.
Additionally, it has been reported that Liverpool are ready to bid £120m for Alexander Isak, which has not gone down well with the fanbase. The Swede is Newcastle’s star player after another brilliant season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions.
While Newcastle work to fight off Liverpool’s interest in Isak, the 25-year-old could be about to do something nobody at the club has managed to do since 1997.

Internally, Newcastle do not want to sell Isak, and would only accept an offer that is deemed far too good to refuse. Despite Liverpool’s interest, it is very difficult to see Isak leave Newcastle this summer, given their stance on selling him and willingness to give him a new contract.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot is a big fan of Isak, and he will want to sign him even more so after Newcastle announced that he has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.
The club confirmed that Isak has been listed as part of a six-man shortlist for the award, and is the only Newcastle player on the list. Isak joins the likes of Mohamed Salah, Declan Rice and Cole Palmer as nominees for the award.
Should he win it, Isak would become the first Newcastle player to win the award since club legend Alan Shearer’s nod after the 1996/97 season, the same campaign he completed his club-record move to the Magpies.

Speaking to Swedish media in March, Isak said he wants to perform for Newcastle, enjoys the city and was only focusing on Champions League qualification.
Now he has achieved that with the club, the right thing for him to do is sign a new deal and put any rumours of an exit to bed.
