Newcastle United will be getting an additional PSR boost this summer, as they get set for pre-season.
Newcastle’s pre-season plans take them to Asia for the second year in a row. 2024 saw the Magpies compete in Japan, while 2025 takes them to Singapore and South Korea.
As well as money-spinning matches against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the Far East, the Sela Cup is also returning to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United will face Atletico Madrid at St James’ Park on 9th August, having taken on Girona and Brest in the friendly competition in 2024, and Fiorentina and Villarreal in 2023.

Newcastle United make Atletico Madrid announcement
The 2025 Sela Cup will see Eddie Howe’s team compete in just one game, unlike previous years. However, Newcastle United Women will also be in action on the same day, taking on Atletico Madrid as well.
The club are welcoming a European juggernaut to St James’ Park, and they will be playing in front of a capacity crowd.
It has been confirmed that tickets for the 2025 Sela Cup are sold out, which will give the Magpies an extra revenue boost. With every ticket sold and the chance to sell food, drink and merchandise to supporters, the Sela Cup is poised to help Newcastle’s bank balance as well as prepare Howe’s team for the 2025/26 curtain-raiser one week later.
Ticket deadline set as Newcastle United prepare for Champions League warm up
Atletico Madrid will not be the only European powerhouse playing at St James’ Park in the next 12 months.
The Magpies are back in the Champions League, with St James’ Park set to host at least four European nights. The big boys will be heading back to Tyneside, like they did in the 2023/24 season when PSG, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund were in town.
Newcastle United season ticket holders currently have the opportunity to confirm their seat for the upcoming Champions League fixtures. They can now enrol in the club’s cup scheme for the 2025/26 season, with Champions League league phase games priced at £60 for adults, £35 for seniors and £30 for juniors (standard seating).
There is also a cup scheme for the Carabao Cup and FA Cup for season ticket holders. The deadline to enrol is Friday, 27th June.
