Newcastle United are NOT interested in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United – either in a cash deal or a loan.
The Magpies have been linked with a loan move with a view to a permanent in a daily tabloid this morning, but Chronicle Live has learned that there has been no willingness from Newcastle to pursue any deal. Rashford has been offered to a number of clubs including the black and whites.
But it is not a deal that will tempt Newcastle with his £350,000 per week wages also exceeding the wage ceiling at Benton. Newcastle’s top earners – such as Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon – are all picking up around £150,000 per week and any big earner would mean a sit down with key Newcastle players to discuss a rise.
The terms of the Rashford offer from the England international’s representatives are similar to that of his deal with Aston Villa. Back then a loan move with a view to a permanent £40m move was put in place but Unai Emery opted against it. Villa didn’t pay a loan fee but contributed around 75 per cent of his huge salary.
Rashford managed four goals for Villa but two of them come against Preston North End in the FA Cup and he could not get a run in the side with just four top-flight starts failing to fully capture the imagination of the Holte End.
Rashford also finished the season with a hamstring injury and did not play from the end of April.
Rashford is one of many high earners who have been put to Newcastle, but head coach Eddie Howe is eager to build an exciting, up-and-coming team. He stated at the end of last season that ‘established’ signings could prove to be difficult at St James’ Park.
At 27, and looking for a key bumper deal to move into his peak years, Rashford does not fit the bill. Howe’s transfer strategy may now be enhanced as he looks to take the lead in the recruitment stakes ahead of Paul Mitchell’s June 30 departure.
Brighton chief drops hint
Newcastle United face stiff competition to land Joao Pedro with Chelsea cranking up their bid for the Brazilian striker in recent days.
The player’s agent is keeping his client’s options open knowing that the Blues can offer a better weekly wage packet. However, Newcastle can offer more opportunities from the start in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Brighton will sell at £60m with Albion supremo Tony Bloom not closing the door on sales. He told ITV Racing: “I don’t think we will be doing a huge amount more (incoming business) between now and the end of the window.”
Juventus star offered to Premier League sides
Newcastle have been constantly linked with former Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in 2025. Talk of an outlandish swap deal for Sandro Tonali has been dismissed by United.
But now Juve, who need to tighten up their finances, are looking to offload the 18-times capped Brazil man. Leeds are the latest side to be offered Luiz, while intermediaries have also tried their luck on Tyneside again with no success so far.
Man United have also been mentioned in recent weeks, along with a return to Villa. The midfielder looks set to be on his way to someone this summer but it is unlikely to be Newcastle.
Luiz is away with Juventus on Club World Cup duty. He came on at half-time in their 5-0 win over Al Ain.
