Newcastle United could lose on two defensive targets in one summer following recent developments in regard to Ousmane Diomande and Marc Guehi.
This summer, Newcastle want to sign a new defender. Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle have scouted Diomande, while Guehi remains on the radar.
Newcastle are still interested in Guehi, who they tried to land last summer but Crystal Palace stood firm.
However, as has been the case for a lot of the opening part of the transfer window for Newcastle United, frustration may be just around the corner.
While the window is still at an early stage, it’s been two years since the club signed a first-team player, making supporters desperate for some good news.
Sadly, though, both Diomande and Guehi could be on the move elsewhere.
Ousmane Diomande could join Crystal Palace and Liverpool want Marc Guehi
BBC Sport have now confirmed Palace are in talks with Sporting CP over a move for Diomande.
The Portuguese giants are looking for around £40million for the 21-year-old, who could be a replacement for Guehi at Selhurst Park.
That’s because, in another article on BBC Sport posted around the same time, they revealed that Liverpool are in fact keen on the England international.
Guehi has just one year left on his contract with Palace and it’s claimed that the Reds are interested.
In fact, it’s even added that Liverpool would be prepared to wait for Guehi’s contract to expire in 2026 before making a move on what would be a free transfer.
Who are Newcastle United’s other transfer targets?
Naturally, Guehi and Diomande aren’t the only names Newcastle are reportedly considering as defensive targets this summer.
Newcastle have been linked with Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his backline.
Newcastle are also looking at the European market for a new defender, and staff are said to be pleased internally that the media do not have a huge grasp on potential targets.

Both Fabian Schar and Dan Burn are over 30 years of age, while Sven Botman has frequently struggled with injury issues over the past two seasons and Jamaal Lascelles did not feature at all during the 2024/25 campaign.
