Peter Reid has been speaking about the possibility of Jack Grealish making a move from Manchester City to Everton
Peter Reid reckons out-of-favour Manchester City star Jack Grealish could be a hit at Everton and would enjoy his football again under David Moyes. Last week it was revealed that the Blues had been installed as bookmakers’ favourites to sign Grealish from Manchester City this summer while an article in the Daily Mail on Sunday claimed Everton are monitoring Grealish’s situation.
The piece stated: “Inside Sport understands that no talks have taken place between the two clubs, but that the Merseyside outfit is aware of Grealish’s availability.
“Any potential move would be likely to be in the shape of a loan deal, with the former Aston Villa man’s £300,000-a-week wages an issue with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules continuing to trigger headaches across the competition. However, bringing the England international to Bramley-Moore Dock would be seen as a serious statement of intent for the club’s new owners, the Friedkin Group.”
Despite becoming the first Englishman to command a £100million fee when he moved from Aston Villa to Manchester City in 2021, as expected, Grealish was left out of Pep Guardiola’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup when the 27-man party was announced on Wednesday.
Everton legend Reid, a player who Kendall described as Everton’s most-important since the Second World War, who also went on to manage Manchester City, was speaking about Grealish’s situation on the latest episode of Grumpy Old Men podcast, and remarked: “Well, it looks as though there’s been a fallout, doesn’t it?
“You know, it doesn’t take an Einstein to see the situation. He’s not going to be there next year, is he?”
In terms of Viv Anderson suggesting a potential move to Everton, Reid said: “Listen, I think the kid’s got ability. I think, well…the trophies he’s won at Man City, you can’t argue with it.
“But if he went to Everton, I think he’d enjoy playing for Everton. I think the Evertonians would like him.
“But like anything else, you’ve got to be right. Something happened to him at Man City where he wasn’t playing.
“Now, I don’t know. I’m not in the know there. But certainly Pep has bombed him out.
“But he’s got the ability to bounce back, the kid. And he’s still a young man.”
Meanwhile, fellow regular Grumpy Old Men pundit Tony Woodcock believes that Grealish has been stifled by Guardiola’s tactics at City. He said: “I think looking at Grealish from Aston Villa time to Man City, he looks like a different player to me.
“It looks like he’s had the brakes put on him a little bit, which we’re talking about, the Man City system, about what you do and what you can’t do. He looked to me at Aston Villa, where he took the game by the scruff of the neck, took players on, do his own thing a little bit.
“And at City, he seems to have been put in a position where you do certain things and this is the way you play in that position. And I think it’s taken a little bit away from him.
“You would think that Jack Grealish, with his ability, should be scoring a lot more goals, particularly a team like Manchester City. But that little bit of an edge, he seems to have lost it since he’s been there.”
