Wolves are set to complete their first signing of the summer transfer window as Fer Lopez is on the verge of joining from Celta Vigo.
After Matheus Cunha was sold to Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri joined Manchester City, Wolves fans were desperate to see some action come from the other direction.
Celta Vigo winger Fer Lopez was identified as an attacking target last week, with Vitor Pereira keen to seal a transfer for the 21-year-old.
Despite only featuring 20 times for the Celta first team, Wolves have offered Lopez triple his current wage, seeing the Spaniard as someone who can develop into an incredible talent.
Lopez has already been compared to Riyad Mahrez by his former coach, and supporters will hope he can reach the same heights as the Algerian did in the Premier League.
Fer Lopez will have his Wolves medical on Wednesday ahead of £19.5m move
It was reported over the weekend that Lopez was going to cost Wolves £21 million, which supporters felt was high considering his lack of first-team experience
However, E&S journalist Liam Keen has revealed the figure agreed is slightly lower at £19.5 million, with the youngster set to undergo his medical on Wednesday ahead of a permanent move.
Lopez was pictured on holiday with former teammate Jorgen Strand Larsen over the weekend, as news of Wolves’ interest in the Spaniard was made public.
Now, it’s only a matter of days before his transfer to Molineux is officially announced, marking the first signing of Domenico Teti’s era as technical director.
Teti was unveiled in the role on Monday following the departure of sporting director Matt Hobbs, with Pereira previously working alongside the 48-year-old at Al Shabab.
Where Wolves will focus after Lopez deal
Lopez is a promising young talent and someone who can make an instant impact in the Premier League, sharing similar attributes to former hero Pedro Neto.
Though given his lack of experience, it’s impossible to expect him to replace Cunha’s output, who amassed 23 goal involvements in all competitions last term.
That is why they are looking for another centre-forward to fill the Brazilian’s void, with Wolves in a race to sign Evan Guessand from OGC Nice.
Pereira is also in the market for a left centre-back to challenge Toti Gomes, a right-back to offer cover for Nelson Semedo, or replace him if he departs.
The departure of Ait-Nouri also means a left wing-back is on the agenda, even if Hugo Bueno has been tipped to star at Molineux in 2025/26.
