Miguel Ángel Brau has been confirmed as Frank Lampard’s opening foray into the transfer market
Coventry City have confirmed their first summer signing as Frank Lampard looks to rejuvenate his squad ahead of another promotion push.
The Sky Blues were edged out of the end-of-season play-offs by a late, late Sunderland winner in their two leg semi-final, but Lampard and Co will be keen to go again.
Spanish left-back Miguel Ángel Brau joins the Sky Blues from La Liga 2 Granada on July 1.
The deal is subject to international clearance and the 23-year-old obtaining a work visa, but marks a clear signal of intent from the club ahead of the upcoming season.

The six-foot defender has spent his entire professional career with Granada, with the exception of one season out on loan.
He joined Granada’s youth set-up in 2019, aged 17, eventually making his senior debut for the club’s reserve side in November 2020. Despite not making an appearance for the first-team, Brau’s contract was extended a few months later, in February 2021, tying him down for another two years.
The following season, Brau was sent on loan to third-division side, CF Talavera de la Reina. Despite featuring in 31 league games for Talavera, scoring twice and setting his team-mates up for three goals, the club were relegated after finishing bottom of the table.
The youngster suffered a knee injury towards the latter stage of the campaign and was recalled by Granada.
He would continue to feature for the reserves before earning his first-team debut as a substitute, although it came during a 7-0 La Liga drubbing from Girona.
Grenada would finish rock bottom, 17 points from safety, returning to the Spanish second division.
Brau featured prominently last season after making the left-back spot his own, going on to making 26 appearances as the club finished seventh.
What will he bring to Coventry?
The 23-year-old defender offers valuable attacking contributions, specifically with his ability to deliver accurate crosses in volume.
Despite not making any assists in the league last season, Brau still created plenty of chances for his team-mates and Lampard will hope to see more of the same when he gets a run out with the Sky Blues.
He will likely offer much-needed support for the current starting left-back, Jay Dasilva, offering the option of rotation for the side.
