Wrexham have now been given a very surprising boost in pursuit of one of their summer transfer targets.
The 2025 summer transfer window will reopen next week, and Wrexham are expected to be busy.
Phil Parkinson has been speaking to clubs about potential moves, and a host of names are of interest to the Welsh side.
Wrexham have had talks with Ben Davies and Danny Ings, while Craig Dawson and Aaron Cresswell are thought to have been offered deals.
Meanwhile, reports emerged early in May that Wrexham were looking at Jonny Evans, who was due to become a free agent at the end of June.

Wrexham target Jonny Evans drops surprising future update
Manchester United confirmed Evans was leaving them at the end of May, in a boost to Wrexham.
The stopper played out his final game for the Red Devils last weekend, featuring in a post-season tour game in Asia.
After that fixture, journalist Andy Mitten reported that Evans was retiring, writing on X/Twitter: “Final game for Jonny Evans, 37, today. He’s ready to hang his boots up. 537 competitive professional club games and another 107 for Northern Ireland. Man Utd, Royal Antwerp, Sunderland, West Brom, Leicester City. 15 trophies.”
However, reports of his playing career being over are seemingly somewhat premature, as the player has now spoken out about his future.
When doing so to BBC Sport, Evans admitted he was unsure what the future holds for him.
He said: “I’m not sure yet. I’ll take a bit of time. I don’t feel like I’m in a rush to do anything.”

Some of the names linked to Wrexham this summer are on simply insane wages.
Evans is taking home a fair amount as well, though it’s not quite as much as some other targets.
Capology reports that the stopper was netting £3.38m a year or £65,000 per week while on the books of Manchester United.
Wrexham plan to offer big wages to players this summer in a bid to compete in the Championship, though £65,000-a-week may be a bit too high.
